Durham Region Fibre-To-The-Home Project
Connecting rural communities with Fibre Internet is what we do and Vianet is proud to be Durham Onenet’s ISP partner for this important project, partially funded through the federal government’s Universal Broadband Fund. This funding will significantly enhance our investment, enabling Vianet to bring Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) to 1,400 underserved homes in Durham Region.
"Vianet is very excited to be a part of this broadband funding announcement, by both the federal and provincial governments, to bring true fibre-optic high-speed to the rural areas of Durham Region. Vianet has provided Internet and connectivity solutions for underserved rural and isolated communities for over 20 years." says Brian McCullagh, Director of Business Development, Vianet, “This project has generated considerable excitement within the region, and the response we've received so far has been very positive”.
During the past Spring, Vianet initiated construction activities across rural Durham, and you might have noticed our crews diligently working on laying the foundation for this expansion. Vianet eagerly anticipates connecting the first homes to fibre Internet in September 2023.
Through this project, Vianet will be working in partnership with Durham OneNet and the Regional Municipality of Durham as the internet service provider to build FTTH to businesses and homes in the communities of Ashburn, Columbus, Courtice, Greenbank, Leaskdale, Manchester, Myrtle Station, Raglan, Sunderland, Uxbridge, and their surrounding areas. Construction will be completed over three phases from 2023 through 2025.
"Building fibre-optic networks in rural areas is costly and complex, but with governments and private companies, all contributing, the broadband gap between rural and urban Canada will be overcome. Vianet looks forward to doing its part." continues McCullagh.
